Emily and Kenny got married in 2024 and are now joyfully expecting their first baby — a sweet boy arriving this November. Emily booked their maternity session in Pismo Beach at 34 weeks, perfectly timed during a family visit to the California coast.

Originally California natives now living in Oklahoma, they wanted their photos to reflect home — relaxed, coastal, and full of connection. Emily’s cousin Alyssa, a dear friend and fellow photographer, introduced me to this wonderful family years ago. Since then, I’ve been lucky to capture their milestones, and this beach maternity session was another favorite chapter in their story.

A Shell Beach Maternity Session Full of Sunsets and Smiles

We met in Shell Beach, just north of Pismo, on a calm coastal evening. The tide was low — something I always check before ocean sessions for both safety and best beach access. The setting was absolutely dreamy: surfers gliding in the distance, a gentle ocean breeze, and a colorful sunset painting the sky.

Emily and Kenny described themselves as playful and fun, wanting authentic moments instead of anything posed or stiff. Their laughter filled every frame, perfectly reflecting the joy of this new season.

For this Pismo Beach maternity session, I brought my new Camp Snap 8 camera, a Super 8 film simulator that adds a nostalgic, cinematic touch. The combination of film and digital created a gallery full of timeless warmth — soft tones, genuine smiles, and the unmistakable glow of California light.
